Apod is a fused case that surrounds multiple seeds. For example, the dehiscent fruit of a leguminous plant such as the pea. Fruit of the same species is considered a different variety if it has a different pod type. Typically a fruit develops from a gynoecium composed of fused carpels, which, upon fertilization, grow to become a silique that contains the developing seeds. After seed maturation, dehiscence takes place, and valves detach from the central septum freeing the seeds.
